HiWave-5
Project

HIWAVE-5 is a project for demonstration of a full-scale Wave Energy Conversion System, installed at the coast of Aguçadoura, Póvoa do Varzim, in Portugal. 

HIWAVE-5 is of great relevance for its potential contribution to the energy transition and to build a new industry. 

HIWAVE-5 join innovation and sustainability to develop a new type of converter to satisfy the growing demand for energy.

Location

Why install at Agucadoura?

  • Fulfills the necessary conditions in terms of wave energy resource. 
  • It has an infrastructure capable of injecting the energy produced into the electric grid.
  • Vicinity to CorPower Ocean’s facilities in Viana do Castelo
  • Access to strong competence pool of engineers in the area from adjacent sectors such as offshore wind, composite manufacturing and shipyards, as well as top level universities.

Technology

Step 4 (2018 - 2022)

Demonstration and prototype of certification of single device full scale C4 WEC (300 kW). TRL6 to TRL7.

Step 5 (2012 - 2025)

Demonstration and certification of pilot array with three C5 WECs (300 kW each). TRL7 to TRL8.
